Raw materials/blends – Solutions based on silicone-coated films and papers as well as special products are increasingly being used in energy systems.
In response to this development, Laufenberg set up its own R&D department five years ago to develop new products based on its own coating technology.
The aim was and is to be able to offer the necessary components for the emerging market as cost-effective roll goods for series production.
These include, for example Silicone flat gaskets for PEM fuel cells on a roll and thermally conductive special coatings for improved performance of conventional electrical insulation papers.
The silicone flat gasket was developed together with institutes specializing in fuel cells. It is characterized by easy handling and high rigidity and can therefore also be easily positioned by machine. A very low surface roughness and a flat surface profile with thicknesses of 200 µm to 700 µm are further properties of this gasket, which is also suitable for use in heat exchangers.
Our development for the industrial production of a cost-effective high-performance CCM for PEMFCs on a roll and the further development of silicone seals for use in PEM electrolyzers are also very promising.
Newly developed special coatings can be applied to various substrates in accordance with the user’s requirements. Thanks to the proprietary coating technology, the thickness of the coating and therefore the thickness of the overall product can also be varied.
