Silicone flat gasket for PEM fuel cells

As an important component of the PEM fuel cell, the silicone flat gasket is used to seal the cells between the membrane and the bipolar plate, as well as the water cooling system in the stack construction.

Silicone flat gasket for PEM fuel cells

Our silicone flat gasket with a PET core was developed specifically for use in PEM fuel cells over many years of collaboration with research institutes and customers. The aim was and is to be able to offer high-quality seals efficiently and economically to the growing fuel cell market in the long term.

Characteristics

  • Good compressibility
  • High density
  • Slightly rough surface
  • Good positioning due to rigidity (fast assembly) + dimensional stability

Compared to other pure silicone flat gaskets available on the market, our material is characterised by its dimensional stability and the resulting optimal positioning during stack assembly.

In addition, the surface roughness is very low due to our manufacturing process. The very flat surface profile means that a high level of gas and water tightness is achieved in the cell with only a small contact pressure. This eliminates the need for additional sealing.

The material can be produced in almost any desired thickness. Currently, thicknesses of 200–700 µm are commercially available. During production, a low thickness tolerance of a few µm can be achieved.

Your requirements for the material

When manufacturing our silicone flat seals, we strictly adhere to your requirements for the material.

Our silicone seal with a PET core is available in different thicknesses. The product can be obtained as a single-sided or double-sided coated version.

Depending on the customer’s plate design, we can produce the optimum layer thickness to within a few µm of the desired value.

We produce our product on rolls for your series production. We can also offer the material in formats if required.

It is generally possible to process the material using a laser or water jet and with standard punching knives.

We offer DIN A4 samples of our standard coating thicknesses for testing purposes. We also offer test productions for a fee, as agreed, starting from as little as one square metre.

The material can also be used for other applications (e.g. electrolysis sector, e-bike sector, etc.)

We will be happy to advise you on all possible specifications and delivery forms!
