Silicone is a release layer with very low surface energy. This makes it impossible to print on a silicone coating using an inkjet system, for example. Laufenberg has developed a new “laser-markable release liner”. In combination with a UV laser (355 nm), the special release coating enables clear marking while the release properties remain unchanged.
A UV laser is a cold laser that does not burn the liner. It triggers a reaction in our new release coating that results in a gray to black tamper-proof mark (which cannot be removed with solvents, for example). We can apply our laser-markable coating to various papers and films so that the release liners can be provided with individual part or serial numbers.
